TRIPOLI, November 29 (Mercy for Mankind) – The seventh
general conference of the World Islamic Call Society (WICS) concluded its
works Monday evening, November 29, with an organizational session and a
reading of a final draft statement.
The session was closed at first, as it included the
restructuring of the Executive Committee of the World Council for Islamic Call
(WCIC) and other bodies of the WICS.
Then, Secretary of the International Organizations and
Conferences Office in the WCIC, Ibrahim Al-Rabo, read a final draft statement
of the seventh general conference that started Friday, November 26, with the
participation of some 500 figures, representing great scholars, Muftis, Sufi
Sheikhs and heads of Islamic organizations and associations, from 120
countries.
The conference was attended by a number of guests, including
political leaders, directors or regional and international organizations, in
addition to Muslim and Christian intellectuals.
The final draft statement included a number of decisions and
recommendations that make the breadlines for the strategies and action plans
for the WICS during the coming four years.
Rapporteur-general of the conference, Ibrahim Al-Ghowail, then
read out the ten recommendations of the seventh general conference of the
WICS.
The first major recommendation is adopting the Internet as a
major method in carrying out the activities of da`wah (conveying Islamic
message), cultural and educational programs, making use of the potentials of
e-learning in introducing Islam to non-Muslims and teaching Muslims both
religious and worldly sciences, in addition to teaching Qur'an and Arabic
language to non-speakers of the language of the Noble Qur'an.
There was also a call to push for a successful convening for
the Information Society Summit, due in
Tunisia
at the end of next year, in a bid to bridge the huge digital gap between the
industrialized and developing countries, including Muslim states.
The conference called for supporting every effort targeting
the strengthening of Sufi values and achieving their goals in the fields of
da`wah, education and programs, for the sake of enrooting the ethical values
in the minds and hearts of younger generations.
In this regard, the conference welcomed the coming the Great
Sufi Conference, which is supposed to take place at the end of 2005 in
Senegal
.
The conference also called for doubling the interest in the
issues of Muslim women, especially in
Africa
.
It also denounced all attempts aiming to link Islam with
violence or terrorism, tarnishing the image of over a billion Muslims
worldwide.
The conference also called on organizations and religious
authorities and bodies to cooperate and coordinate in resisting the waves of
moral degradation, exploitation of nature, encouragement of anti-religious
values and degeneration family bonds.
The seventh general conference of the WICS also denounced all
forms of injustice, aggression, use of force and resorting to policies of
invasion, embargo-- outside the frame of international legitimacy, and
starvation.
Following the reading of the draft final statement, names of
the new structures of the WICS bodies were announced.
The members chose Dr Mohamed Ahmed Al-Sharief to keep his post
as the Secretary-General of the WCIC. Other major posts of the WICS and the
Islamic Call College also remained unchanged, reflecting the confidence of the
members in the performance during the last four years.
Verses from the Noble Qur'an were then recited, declaring the
end of that great Muslim gathering.
